Uptime Monitoring

Know the moment your site goes down — without ever watching a status page.

Every minute your website is down, customers who wanted to reach you simply can’t — and most owners find out hours later, from an annoyed customer or an empty order queue. Uptime Monitoring closes that gap. Crafty Meerkat checks your website’s availability at regular intervals from multiple locations, and the moment a check fails, we email you. When your site comes back, we email you again to confirm the recovery. You don’t need to watch the page, refresh a dashboard, or wonder — the alerts come to you.

Picture a bakery whose online ordering page goes down at 7:40 on a Saturday morning, right before the weekend rush. Without monitoring, the first sign of trouble is a quiet till. With Crafty Meerkat, the down alert lands in the owner’s inbox at 7:41, a quick call to the hosting company fixes it, and the recovery email at 8:05 confirms orders are flowing again — before most customers noticed anything.

Beyond down alerts, the monitor tracks your site’s response times over time. A site that slowly gets more sluggish week after week rarely announces itself — the response-time history makes the trend visible, so you can act before visitors start giving up. Your full uptime history is displayed as a visual timeline in your dashboard, making it easy to correlate downtime events with dips in your traffic charts.

How it works

Crafty Meerkat sends a standard HTTP request (the same kind of request a browser makes) to your website at regular intervals from multiple geographic locations. If your site fails to respond or returns an error status code, the check is marked as down and the alert email goes out immediately. Checking from more than one location matters: it separates a real outage from a hiccup on a single network path, so you aren’t woken up by false alarms.

Every check also records how long your site took to answer. Those measurements build the response-time history you see on the Uptime page — a simple chart of how quickly your site has been responding, day after day.

Step by step

  1. 1

Open the Uptime page for your site

In your dashboard, select your site and click Uptime in the sidebar. Monitoring starts automatically once your site is added — there is nothing to configure to get the basics working.

  2. 2

    Read the status timeline

The timeline shows a bar for each period: green means your site answered every check, red marks downtime. Hover any segment to see exactly when an outage started and ended and how long it lasted.

  3. 3

    Review the response-time history

Below the timeline, the response-time chart shows how quickly your site has been answering. A flat line is what you want; a slow upward drift is an early warning worth a conversation with your hosting provider.

  4. 4

Check your alert emails reach you

Alerts go to your account email. Add the sender to your contacts so a down alert never lands in spam — the whole point is that you see it within a minute.

Tips from the den

  • When you get a down alert, wait for the recovery email before assuming the worst — brief blips resolve themselves, and the pair of emails tells you exactly how long the outage lasted.
  • If you see repeated short outages at the same time each night, share the timeline with your hosting provider — it is often a scheduled job or server restart on their side.
  • Use the PDF Report button on the Uptime page to save a monthly availability summary — useful evidence if you ever need to hold a hosting company to its promises.

Common questions

Will I get an email when my site comes back up?

Yes. You get one email the moment your site goes down and a second email when it recovers, including how long the outage lasted. You never need to keep checking manually.

What counts as “down”?

A check counts as down when your site fails to respond or returns an error status code. Because checks come from multiple locations, a problem on one network path alone won’t trigger a false alarm.

Do I need to install anything extra for uptime monitoring?

No. Uptime monitoring runs from our side by visiting your site the way a browser would. It works even on pages where the analytics snippet isn’t installed.
