AI Traffic Report

How much website traffic actually comes from AI?

Live, aggregate numbers from the real small-business websites on the Crafty Meerkat network — not a survey, not an estimate. Right now the sample is 5 sites and 1,704 page views over the last 30 days. That is a small, early sample — we publish it anyway, state it plainly, and update this page as the network grows.

Which assistants send the traffic

Page views whose referrer is an AI assistant, last 30 days. Share is of all page views in the sample.

ChatGPT3 visits · 0.18%

We attribute a visit to an assistant when the browser referrer is one of: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI, Le Chat (Mistral), You.com, Poe, Kagi, Phind. Assistants that open links without a referrer are invisible to every analytics tool, so real AI-referred traffic is higher than any referrer-based number — ours included.

The AI crawlers we watch for

Server-side observations of AI crawlers — the bots that read sites to train models and answer questions. Observations come from sites running our WordPress plugin, so this section is WordPress-weighted and has no recorded visits in this window yet.

Methodology, plainly

Where the numbers come from. Every website using Crafty Meerkat analytics contributes anonymous, aggregate counts: total page views, and page views whose referrer is a known AI assistant. No site names, no URLs, no visitor data — just totals across the network.

What we exclude. Our own demo site (its traffic is simulated for product previews) and anything our bot filtering catches. If a number here were padded with synthetic traffic, this whole page would be worthless — so it never is.

Known bias. The sample is small-business websites, currently 5 of them, weighted toward North America and toward WordPress for the crawler data. Treat these numbers as a floor and a trend line, not a census of the web.

Why publish at this size? Because nobody has good public numbers on AI traffic, and the honest version of a small dataset beats the vague version of a big one. The sample size is stated on every view of this page and the numbers update as the network grows.
