AI Traffic Tracking

Know how visible your business is when AI assistants answer people’s questions.

A growing share of your future customers won’t find you through Google — they’ll ask an AI assistant “best bakery near the harbor” or “affordable family law office” and click the site the assistant recommends. AI Traffic Tracking shows you when that happens, so you know whether AI tools are already sending you visitors and how fast that channel is growing.

Crafty Meerkat automatically detects visits referred by ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI, Le Chat, You.com, Poe, Kagi, and Phind. There is nothing to configure — the moment your tracking snippet is installed, AI-referred visits are labeled and counted.

The AI Traffic card on your Analytics page shows visits per assistant and what share of your total traffic AI tools drive. Think of it as an early-warning system for the next big traffic shift: if Perplexity sent you 30 visits this month and 80 the next, your site is becoming part of the answers AI gives about your industry.

How it works

When a visitor arrives, their browser usually reports the site they came from (the “referrer”). Crafty Meerkat compares that referrer against a maintained list of AI assistants and chat tools. Matching visits are grouped into the AI Traffic card — separate from search engines and social media — so a click from ChatGPT never hides inside “direct traffic” or a generic referrer list. The list of detected assistants is kept up to date for you as new tools appear.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open your Analytics page

The AI Traffic card sits alongside your referrers and campaign data. No setup is needed.

  2. 2

    Check visits per assistant

See exactly which tools — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and others — are sending people to your site, and how many visits each one drove in your selected date range.

  3. 3

    Watch the share-of-traffic figure

The card shows what percentage of your total traffic comes from AI tools. Even 2–3% today is worth watching, because this channel compounds.

  4. 4

See which pages AI visitors land on

Click through to filter your analytics by these visits. The landing pages tell you what AI assistants think your site is the best answer for.

Tips from the den

  • Rising AI traffic usually rewards clear, factual pages: plain-language service descriptions, prices, opening hours, and FAQs are exactly what assistants cite.
  • Compare AI traffic month-over-month rather than day-to-day — volumes are still small for most sites, so trends matter more than single days.
  • Pair this card with Goals: it’s one thing to get AI visitors, another to learn whether they convert as well as search visitors do.

Common questions

Do I need to change anything on my site to track AI traffic?

No. Detection is automatic with the standard tracking snippet, on every plan. Visits referred by supported AI assistants are labeled the moment they arrive.

Which AI assistants does Crafty Meerkat detect?

ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek, Grok, Meta AI, Le Chat, You.com, Poe, Kagi, and Phind — and the list is updated as new assistants gain traction.

Why does my AI traffic look low even though I know people use ChatGPT?

Many AI interactions never produce a click — the assistant answers directly. And some clicks arrive without referrer information, which lands in direct traffic. The AI Traffic card shows the visits that can be confidently attributed, which is the trend line worth watching.
