Competitor Analysis

See how your site stacks up against the competition — and let your AI Advisor use it.

Your website never exists in a vacuum. When a customer searches for “wedding cakes near me,” your bakery’s site is judged next to two rivals’ sites — on speed, on clarity, on findability. Competitor Analysis shows you where you stand in that comparison, so you can compete on facts instead of hunches.

Enter your competitors’ website addresses and Crafty Meerkat monitors their publicly available metrics alongside your own data: the technology stack their sites run on (the platforms and tools they are built with), performance metrics, and publicly available traffic indicators. Everything analyzed is public information — the same things anyone could observe by visiting their site — organized into a benchmark you can actually use.

What makes this more than a static report is that your built-in AI Advisor reads it too. Stats Chat can answer “How do I compare to my competitors?” with real data, weekly recommendations can account for the competitive gap, and the Prompt Builder can fold competitor findings into an improvement plan for your developer. Competitive intelligence stops being a once-a-year exercise and becomes part of your normal weekly rhythm.

How it works

You add competitor URLs in the Competitors area of your site’s dashboard. Crafty Meerkat analyzes each one, detecting the technology stack, measuring performance, and gathering publicly available traffic indicators, then presents the results next to your own numbers for easy side-by-side reading.

To be clear about the boundaries: Competitor Analysis works only with public information. It does not — and cannot — see a competitor’s private analytics, customer data, or revenue. It gives you the honest outside view: how their site presents to the world, compared with how yours does.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Open the Competitors area

Select your site in the dashboard, then choose Competitors in the sidebar.

  2. 2

    Add competitor websites

Enter the web addresses of the businesses you compete with. Two or three direct competitors give a more actionable picture than a long list of loosely related sites.

  3. 3

    Review the side-by-side comparison

Look at where each competitor is ahead of you and where you are ahead of them — technology, performance, public traffic indicators. The gaps in your favor are marketing points; the gaps against you are the to-do list.

  4. 4

    Put the findings to work

Ask Stats Chat comparison questions, or include the competitor analyses in a Prompt Builder document so the improvement plan targets the gaps that matter competitively.

Tips from the den

  • Choose competitors your customers actually consider, not the biggest name in your industry — the local rival across town is a more useful benchmark for a law office than a national firm.
  • Check the comparison after a competitor redesigns their site; technology and performance shifts often signal a change in their strategy.
  • Beating competitors on page speed is one of the most achievable wins the comparison reveals — pair it with your own Page Speed Tracking data to confirm progress.
  • Do not chase every gap. Pick the one or two differences most likely to sway a customer choosing between you, and fix those first.

Common questions

Can Crafty Meerkat see my competitors’ private analytics?

No. Competitor Analysis works exclusively with publicly available information — their technology stack, performance metrics, and public traffic indicators. It never accesses anyone’s private data, and by the same token, your private data is never visible to anyone monitoring you.

How many competitors should I track?

Two or three direct competitors is the sweet spot for most small businesses. That is enough to see where you genuinely stand without drowning the comparison in sites your customers never actually consider.

How does competitor data improve the AI features?

Stats Chat has access to your competitor analyses, so it can answer comparison questions with real data. Prompt Builder can include competitor findings in its improvement documents, turning “they are faster than us” into a concrete, prioritized fix.

Will my competitors know I am analyzing them?

The analysis observes only what is publicly visible when anyone visits a website. There is no login, no account connection, and nothing that identifies you to the competitor.
