Verify It’s Working

A thirty-second check — plus what to do if nothing shows up.

The fastest way to know your install worked is also the most satisfying one: visit your own website and watch yourself appear in the dashboard a few seconds later. No waiting for reports to process, no “data may take 24–48 hours” — Crafty Meerkat shows visits in real time, so verification takes about thirty seconds.

This guide walks through that check, then covers the handful of things that occasionally get in the way — a mistyped site ID, a page the snippet missed, an ad blocker, or your own IP being excluded. Every one of them has a quick fix.

Verifying is worth the thirty seconds even if you are confident: a snippet that is missing from half your pages produces numbers that look plausible but quietly undercount your traffic and distort metrics like bounce rate.

Step by step

Open your website in a new tab
Load any page of your site the way a visitor would. If your browser has an ad blocker or a strict privacy extension, try a private window or a different browser too — some blockers stop all analytics scripts, including this one, which affects your test but only the small share of visitors who use those tools.

Watch Live Traffic View
In your dashboard, open Live Traffic View. Your visit should appear within a few seconds, showing the page you loaded, your location, your device, and your visitor name. If you see it — you are done. Everything else in the dashboard fills in from here automatically.

If nothing appears, check the network request
Open your browser’s developer tools (usually the F12 key), switch to the Network tab, and reload your page. Look for a request to t.craftymeerkat.com. If the request is there and succeeds, tracking is firing — give the feed a few more seconds. If it is missing, the snippet is not on the page: view the page source and search for craftymeerkat to confirm.

Check the usual suspects
The most common causes, in order: the site ID in the snippet does not match the one in your dashboard (copy it fresh and compare character by character); the snippet was saved but the site was never published (Webflow, Wix, and GTM all require a publish step); the snippet is only on some pages (check a template or layout file); or your own IP is excluded in Settings, so your visits are being correctly dropped — ask a friend to visit, or test from your phone on cellular data.

Confirm it is on every page
Once your first visit shows up, spot-check two or three other pages — especially ones that use a different template, like a blog post or a checkout page. Every page missing the snippet is a blind spot in your data.

Tips from the den

◆Testing from your phone on cellular data is the cleanest verification: different device, different network, no browser extensions in the way.
◆If you excluded your own IP (a good habit), remember that your visits are supposed to be invisible — verify with another device or ask someone else to load the site.
◆Bookmark Live Traffic View for launch days. The same screen you used to verify the install is the one you will watch when a campaign goes out.

Common questions

How long does it take for data to appear?

Seconds. Crafty Meerkat processes events in real time, so if two minutes have passed and nothing shows in Live Traffic View, the visit was not recorded — walk through the troubleshooting steps rather than waiting longer.

The request to t.craftymeerkat.com is blocked in my browser. Is the install broken?

Probably not — an ad blocker or privacy extension on your own browser is the usual cause. Test in a private window with extensions off, or from your phone on cellular data. A small share of real visitors block analytics too; that affects every analytics tool and simply means your true traffic is slightly higher than reported.

My visit appears but the location or device looks wrong. Should I worry?

No. Location comes from an IP lookup at collection time, and VPNs, corporate networks, and mobile carriers can place you in a nearby city or a different region. Across many real visitors these effects average out and your geographic picture stays reliable.
